In Mexico and Central America (except Panama) it is called “elote”, a word that comes from the Nahuatl elotitutl ('tender corn’) with reference to the ear that is still on the plant that produced it (both mature and immature), or to that which was recently harvested and in which the kernels still retain natural moisture. This term is also used in Mexican and Central American communities in the United States.
